With the start of the new year, many of us are thinking about how to make 2024 a better and safer year than the previous one. The DF Safety team prioritizes the importance of safety, and ensuring your business and workplace is doing the same. As we kick off the new year, we want to take this opportunity to highlight five safety goals to make for a safer 2024.

Be prepared for an emergency

The start of a new year provides the perfect opportunity to review, and update emergency response plans. This should include evacuation procedures as well as communication protocols. Ensure you inform your employees about your emergency plans and implement regular drills to ensure that they stay up to date with expectations.

Assess ergonomics

Ergonomic factors are sometimes easy to overlook as a key component to safety. Injuries caused from poor ergonomics are much less obvious than slips, falls, trips, or accidents involving equipment or chemicals. However, these injuries are equally as important and can lead to serious issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, strained muscles, or ruptured disks.

It is key to access ergonomic conditions in your workplace to avoid injury. Encourage your workers to take breaks, stretch, and communicate any issues they may have.

Comply with regulations

It is important to ensure all policies and procedures are checked regularly and updated as needed. Review the last year and consider how you might improve protocols in and around your business. When it comes to safety, it is crucial not to become complacent. Review all regulations to ensure you are informed and properly following compliance in your industry.

If you aren’t sure where to start or require a consultation, DF Safety can assist you with this step.

Inspect equipment

Schedule regular equipment inspections to make sure all your equipment and gear are in excellent condition and meets required safety codes. If there are improvements that need to be made, take the necessary steps to have everything in proper, working order. Educate your staff about what to look for and flag any irregularities.

Start the year off right and ensure your employees are working with equipment safely and comfortably.

Seek resources

There is plethora of resources available to employees and employers that will help ensure your workplace is a safe one. DF Safety offers a variety of courses, and we invite you to look to see if there are some that would benefit you or your organization.
